4 Day Private Desert Tour from Marrakech to Erg Chebbi Merzouga to explore the Moroccan Sahara Desert

Depart from Marrakech on a private tour to Merzouga dunes crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi N’Tichka’s pass with 2260m and the most beautiful road of 1000 Kasbahs, and the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah.

  • Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi-n-Tichka – Telouet – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate

We will pick up you from your hotel/riad then we travel to the south of High Atlas Mountains via Tizi-n-Tichka (2260m). A spectacular road of red mountains and Berber villages. We visit the Kasbah of Telouet, built by the Lord of the Atlas the Pacha Brahim Thami. One of strongest Berber leaders in High Atlas Mountains. On our arrival to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah village, we will go for a walk to visit this ancient village. An old village where a list of movie credits was made starting with the first movies “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Jesus of Nazareth”, “Gladiator” and the list is still going on. Also listed in UNESCO as a site of world heritage and national culture in 1987. Drive to Ouarzazate / overnight Hotel or Riad.

  • Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Roses Valley – Toudra Gorge – Erg Chebbi Merzouga

Next morning we leave this cinematographic city and head to Skoura. An old oasis of thousands palms groves. We will carry on to the Valley of Roses, the only place in Morocco where we harvest Damascus rose of which we extract some products like rose water and rose oil best for skin treatment and anti-wrinkles. The second valley, we will visit the astonishing mountains in Todra Valley and admire the gorges. Time for lunch then we head to the gate of the desert Arfoud or what the locals call the capital of fossils. You will have a chance to see how they polish the fossils and make some beautiful items out of mere rocks. These fossils are witnesses of an era of 5 hundred million years ago. Next place will be in Merzouga where you can go for a camel ride and enjoy the sunset in the beautiful red dunes of Erg Chebbi Merzouga overnight in Berber camp.

  • Day 3: Erg Chebbi Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Tazarine – Zagora

We will be waiting for you to come back from your Berber camp. In Rissani, we visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif the founder of the actual Alaouite Dynasty. It is started reigning over the country in the 17th century. We stop in the oasis of Tazarine or Alnif for the lunch break. We also drive in deserted plateaus at the back side of the Anti-Atlas mountains To Agdez. From Agdez to Zagora oasis, the last stop for today. It is one of the beautiful sites which is composed of more than 100 thousand palms. Known also for organizing “Marathon des sables”, one of the toughest Marathons in the world happening in the desert. Overnight Zagora Hotel or Riad.

  • Day 4: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakesh

The last day of this tour we drive to Agdez. We will enjoy Draa Valley that spreads more than 200 km of palms. The production of dates in this valley is about 20 thousand tunes each year. Afterwards from Agdez to Marrakech 260km, it is going to be a nice drive in the small Atlas Mountains with its lunar sceneries all the way to Ouarzazate and after the high Atlas Mountains pass to finish the tour in the red city Marrakech. Overnight.
