Tour 4: Morocco’s Imperial Cities Tour (8 Days)

Immerse yourself in this 8-day adventure that combines historical discovery, cultural immersion, and scenic splendor through Morocco’s royal capitals and the breathtaking Sahara Desert. This all-inclusive journey will transport you from the busy cityscapes to the peaceful dunes of the desert, offering you an incredible Moroccan experience.

You will begin your trip with a visit to the famous Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco’s commercial center. Showcasing prominent Moorish elements, this architectural masterpiece ranks as one of the few mosques accessible to non-Muslims. When you journey from Casablanca to Rabat, the country’s capital, you will explore ancient locations like the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Chellah Necropolis. These locations provide a fantastic mosaic of Roman and Merinid ruins, illustrating the diverse history.

Proceeding to Meknes, another imperial city, you will see Sultan Moulay Ismael’s tomb, the granary Sahrij Swani, and the magnificent Bab Mansour gate. With its exquisite gates, mosques, and madrasas, Meknes offers a window into the magnificence of the eighteenth century. You will visit the neighboring Roman remains at Volubilis, home to beautifully preserved mosaics and Latin inscriptions demonstrating the historic Roman influence in Morocco. Volubilis is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Next on the itinerary is Fez, the oldest imperial city famous for its ancient medina. This maze-like city is Morocco’s intellectual and cultural center, with almost a thousand lanes. We will take the expansive view from the southern tower, explore the well-known tanneries, and stroll through the busy alleyways filled with artisan items.

You will then travel from Fez via the picturesque Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, dubbed «Little Switzerland,» due to its ski resort and architecture reminiscent of the Alps. Then, you will proceed by cedar trees, where the indigenous Barbary macaques reside, until you arrive at the Sahara Desert. From here, you can take a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga to see the beautiful sunsets and spend the night beneath the stars in a traditional Berber tent.

Then, you will travel to the breathtaking Todra Gorges from the desert, renowned for its tall cliffs and verdant palm trees. Pass through the Rose Valley, known for its Damascus roses, and the Dades Valley, with its unusual rock formations. Discover the Taourirt Kasbah and the film studios in Ouarzazate, then visit the historic Ait Benhaddou town, a UNESCO site.

The journey continues to Marrakech over the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, which crosses the High Atlas Mountains. Explore Marrakech’s vibrant souks, the Saadian Tombs, and the magnificent Bahia Palace. Unwind in the tranquil Majorelle Garden and take in the lively ambiance of Jemaa el-Fnaa Plaza, home to food vendors and performers.

Your Moroccan experience ends when the trip ends with transport to the airport in Marrakech or Casablanca. This eight-day tour promises a fantastic tour across Morocco’s imperial cities and the magnificent Sahara Desert, combining history, culture, and natural wonders.
