Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Gorges

Your adventure begins early in Marrakech as we depart toward the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The road ascends through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s highest, where you’ll pause to admire sweeping views of terraced valleys and Berber villages tucked into the hillsides. Along the way, we’ll visit the remarkable kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its mud-brick architecture and cinematic history. Walking through its narrow alleys gives you a glimpse of life as it once was, centuries ago. After lunch in a local restaurant, the drive continues toward Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert.”

By afternoon, the scenery shifts dramatically as we approach the Dades Valley. You’ll pass through lush oases, ancient fortresses, and clay villages before reaching the striking Dades Gorges, where erosion has carved the rocks into dramatic shapes. The valley glows in the late afternoon light, offering a perfect end to your first day. Settle into a comfortable hotel or guesthouse overlooking the gorges, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and rest amid the peaceful rhythm of the valley.

Day 2: Dades Gorges → Todra Gorges → Merzouga (Camel Trek & Desert Camp)

After breakfast, the journey continues through the changing landscapes of southern Morocco. We’ll travel along a road lined with kasbahs and palm groves, leading us to the breathtaking Todra Gorges. Towering limestone cliffs rise on either side of the narrow canyon, creating a natural wonder that’s perfect for a short walk and photos. You’ll feel dwarfed by the cliffs as you stroll along the riverbed, watching local shepherds guide their flocks. Afterward, we stop for lunch in Tinghir before continuing toward the desert region near Erfoud and Rissani, the gateway to the Sahara.

As we reach the outskirts of Merzouga, the dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear, glowing in shades of gold and orange. Here, you’ll trade wheels for camels and begin your sunset trek across the sand, a highlight of the entire trip. The rhythmic steps of the camels and the shifting colors of the dunes create a surreal atmosphere. By dusk, you’ll arrive at your desert camp, greeted with mint tea and Moroccan hospitality. Enjoy a hearty dinner under the open sky, listen to traditional Berber drums by the fire, and fall asleep under a blanket of stars in your private tent.

Day 3: Merzouga → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Wake up early to witness the quiet beauty of sunrise over the dunes, an experience that feels both serene and timeless. After breakfast at the camp, we’ll begin the return journey through the desert landscapes, stopping occasionally for photos and refreshments. As the dunes recede, you’ll appreciate just how vast and varied Morocco’s terrain truly is. We’ll drive through Alnif and the Draa Valley, following palm-filled oases and adobe villages that mark the rhythm of desert life.

In the afternoon, we’ll pass once again through Ouarzazate, with an optional stop to visit the Atlas Film Studios or Kasbah Taourirt. From there, the route climbs over the Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech, offering breathtaking views and quiet moments to reflect on your journey. By evening, you’ll arrive back at your hotel or riad in Marrakech, carrying the colors and calm of the desert with you, a memory that will stay long after the sand has left your shoes.
